Overview of the Faculty

 

Brief History

 

The Faculty of Engineering started with two programmes (Electrical and Petroleum Engineering) in 1979.  The following programmes were added: Chemical Engineering in 1982, Civil Engineering in 1983; Mechanical Engineering in 1988; Gas Engineering and Environment Engineering in 2000.  The electrical engineering programme was changed to Electrical/Electronic Programme in 1991.

To be one of the leading Engineering Faculties and a center of excellence in teaching and applied research in the Country and the world in the context of attracting the best brains in both staff and students, and providing practicable solutions to engineering problems in the locality and globally.

Our Mission

  • Strive to attain uniqueness within the University setting by evolving practical solutions to engineering problems as they affect the University, the Niger Delta Environment and the world at large.
  • Committed to the provision of quality engineering education aimed at imparting engineering competence and development of engineering skills to both staff and students at all levels.
  • Committed to harnessing all materials, human and physical resources at its disposal in a most efficient manner towards the advancement of the Engineering Faculty in the various aspects of its endeavour.
